There's A Little Coffee Shop

Patrick Cannell 2017

I find it hard to stand
On all this shifting sand,
I'm not ashamed to say.
You're buried head to foot
In quantities of soot
That rain down every day.

There's a little coffee shop
Where the seconds seem to stop
And the clatter of the world goes by.
I could spend an hour or two
In the company of you
And a tiny piece of lemon pie.

I find it hard to run
On clouds of fear and fun
That float to nowhere fast.
You like to read the news.
Seeds and partial truths
Are easily broadcast.

There's a little coffee shop
Where the seconds seem to stop
And the clatter of the world goes by.
I could spend an hour or two
In the company of you
And a tiny piece of lemon pie.

Talk to me of sausages and kings
And a million other things.
You can have your carrot cake and eat it.
